Space Setting Project

For some time now I have been fascinated with science fiction and more importantly futuristic settings. Slowly I've been making home-brew space stuff for my campaigns though I had never really written them down before, I just mostly made it up on the spot. It was only recently that I decided to make a full campaign taking place in a future setting.

What I've ended up with is a basic history for a world that I dreamt about that I am slowly trying to work on and develop into something that I can treasure. I guess it's best to start off by posting the dream that has inspired me to make this new setting.

"The year was 18036, the human race was no longer recognizable compared to the original earthlings. Instead there were many races races, each the descendants of man. Together they formed a government known as the Aeternum Empire. This government was ruled by the six emperors, Magnus, Julianus, Kyrinus, Gramthus, Locanter, and Zermonth. (My brain apparently liked -us es) These emperors had led humanity on the trail of glory for centuries and had forged a peace that was destined to fail.

For unknown to the emperor the three most powerful royal families had their own ideas of what the human race should be. They each family had formed the consensus that there were only three species that had the right to call themselves the descendants of man. These races were the Neo-Humans, the Genosians, and the Itlans. Using their vast resources they, in secret, built an army capable of fighting toe to toe with the rest of the empire. It was a vast army of robots, they were control by Neo-Humans called psychic commanders. These commanders did what most would consider unthinkable, they gave up their physical existence to have their minds turned into powerful machines capable of simultaneusly controlling a hundred-thousand units at a time. They had a network of forty-thousand psychic commanders controlling a vast legion that has complete tactical awareness unlike anything that the empire had ever seen. This presented the greatest threat that they ever had to had to fight in their long history.

After countless losses at the hands of the pure-breed faction the emperors were growing weary and started a project that had been scraped three-thousand years ago. The project was named ‘Animus Machina’ and it’s reason for being scraped was that the results could pose a threat to everything that the empire valued.

The project was not announced to the public or to anyone other than the emperor and those who would be working on it. The results of Animus Machina were better than anyone could have expected. The subjects that were created were more perfect than the empire had initially prepared for. In total only three-thousand were created, but it was stated that a single one could replace an entire fleet in terms of their effect on the battlefield. They were deemed the Imperial Dragons, a force that defied tactics with sheer power and strength. Before the psychic commanders could even devise counter measure the Imperial Dragons tilted the scales heavily in the favor of the empire. This was a double edged sword for the empire, the dragons were quickly developing an ego. Due to their superior abilities and power they were showing more and more disregard for life. Due to this the emperors enacted a plan to regain complete control over their dragons. It was then that they created the ten heavenly dragons, each loyal to the empire and each was given control over three-hundred dragons.

These heavily dragons were given names not by their creators, but by the empire as a whole. Their names were Shiori the Goddess of Fire, Maxum the Heavenly Bullet, Graham the Shadow, Freya the Goddess of Ice, Nina the Heavenly Dagger, Lucian the North Star, Yutora the Machine God, Borrak the Golem, Deus the King of Lightning, and finally the most feared of all of the Heavenly Dragons, Akuma the Eater of Worlds. With the Heavenly Dragons the fate of the war was sealed. It was a victory for Aeternum Empire, but a loss for the most powerful of the dragons, Akuma.

It was ordered that the dragons be used to detain and if at all possible kill Akuma. His powers were seen as extreme even compared to the combined forces of the other dragons and thus he was the single biggest threat that the emperors could imagine. It was then that they lured Akuma to FCL-2235 with the orders to end him. This was a mistake for due to this course of action the dragons would perish and only those closest to gods would live. Akuma killed the emperor’s dragons and was barely captured by the Heavenly Dragons after seven days of constant fighting.

Even at the end Akuma, was not angry with his siblings, instead he was proud of them for following their orders even if it meant risking their lives to do so. “

So that’s the dream I had, well sort of, it’s the jist of the dream. I loved this dream so much that I decided the entire setting must come to life for some form of campaign and that I should work hard to achieve my goal of creating something so wonderful. From there I decided to break it down into it’s more detailed components, the first one that was the most important to me was ‘who were the other species?’ It bothered me to no end because I saw them in my dream but they had no names or vital statistics. It’s what I am currently working for the campaign because I feel like if I don’t know who they are then I can’t really create the rest of the universe because they help shape it.

From now on whenever I get progress done on the campaign I'll make sure to post it here for people to see, read, and comment on. I would love peoples input because it would help me form a more rock solid setting for others to enjoy.
